I headed to visage hair design today to have a full head of meche highlights and blow dry after this six month lockdown while on a staycation with friends. They were so easy going and accommodated the booking around my short stay. Upon arrival they were warm and welcoming, taking my jacket, offering me a seat etc. After such a long time between hair appointments ( my last being dec 2020) my roots as a natural brunette gone blonde were out of control. Upon inspecting the situation of my hair, they had some bad news to give me. The last person to have done my hair had botched my hair, I had areas unbeknownst to me bleached and fried off and my hair was growing at different lengths all while being extremely dry and fragile. It had gone brassy but this was just due to such a long time between appointments and the nature of my hair. Because of such a botched job done on my hair, the head stylist kindly told me that out of care for my hair, and out of professional conduct she could not dye my hair how I liked. This was devastating and I started to tear up as I’d been looking much forward to doing my hair for months upon months after this seven month period of being unable to with the lockdown situation and being unable to find a single booking somewhere in my own town.She very calmly assured me and informed me of my options of what was safest to do with my hair. Any other hair salons would not have been so tender yet realistic about the condition of my hair, showing me the harsh reality of a dye job gone bad. She suggested I have some cut off my hair to help even it out and get rid of the split ends, to which I explained that although I knew I was being awkward and should get some off for the sake of my hairs health that I wished not to having suffered from alopecia and only really coming out the other end of it now. Unlike previous hairdressers she didn’t push anything on me and told me she completely understood the delicate ness of my situation. In the end we decided to try at least make me feel pretty and like I’d my hair dyed by putting a variety of well chosen toners through it not just going with a general one, a treatment and just blow drying it softly and with care. I asked for a guess of how much it’d cost as I’d originally been quoted for a full head meche highlights and blow dry and they very reasonably quoted me 50 euro for the toner and treatment. I was more than happy to oblige as this was very fair considering the damage of my hair. I was in hysterics and the ladies here went out of their way to keep complimenting me and assuring me of how well the toner was taking to my hair, she even went as far as to style my hair when I’d only asked for a plain straighten. Upon going to pay I went to hand the money and was told it would be free of charge as they just felt so bad for me, although I kept assuring them I must pay as they still performed a great service on me and took care of me despite being scared my hair would be high risk. They insisted and couldn’t see me walk away all upset despite it being in no way, shape or form their fault for the irreparable damage done to my hair or their obligation to fix it. They went the extra mile to put that smile on my face and gave me what I’d say was a considerable amount of money’s worth of hair treatments for free, instructing me on how to use them, just out of the kindness of their hearts. I left the salon beaming from their confident hands and random generosity for someone like me who was only passing through Galway. Majella was an absolute star, saint and beautiful soul and it’s evident to me how well treated the staff are and how adoring the regular customers are from their comfortable demeanour and attitude. The salon has such a relaxed, confidence inducing atmosphere and the quality of care and professionalism was a million euros worth. 15/5 stars, would travel here to be treated and not Dublin where I’m from
